Thomas was the husband of the bride's sister Rebecca. Ethel was the sister of the bride's late husband William Tomlinson. Why there were no witnesses from the groom's side is not known. However, his father was dead so it is possible that he had no immediate family in the area. Louisa's father was also dead (although the register entry does not record him as being deceased) having died in Bethnal Green Workhouse the previous February. It is possible that she had lost touch with her father and was unaware of his death. Her mother was also dead.
