  • It is known that his wife Harriett remarried in 1854 and that she had two sons Thomas and John in 1844 and 1848 respectively. In the 1851 Census both sons are recorded with the surname Rowles which implied that Henry was not their father and that after his death Harriett had reverted to her maiden name. This is confirmed by the fact that in the 1851 Census she is recorded as living with her parents Joseph and Rachel Rowles using the surname Rowles and declaring that she is unmarried. Her two sons who are living with her are also recorded with the surname Rowles. However, when she remarries in 1854 she uses her married name of Morrison and states she is a widow. All this implies that Henry died sometime between 1838 and 1842 with a bias towards the former date as they do not appear to have had any children. A search for his death registration or burial record in the Pill and Bristol areas was fruitless. However, if he was a marine engineer and had died at sea his death would have been registered where it was reported.
