The 1939 Register gives his date of birth as 13 December 1884. However, as his birth was registered in the first quarter of 1886 he must have been born in 1885. This is confirmed by his Army and Naval records which both give his date of birth as 13 December 1885 and to a lesser extent by his baptism which took place in March 1886.
When searching for his birth registration it was discovered that a Florence Annie Prestridge had been registered in the same district and quarter. Prestridge is a very unusual name so it was thought that she may have been Edward's twin. However, she was not baptised at the same time as Edward and there is no death registration indicating that she died shortly after birth.
