  • The 1851 Census gives Elizabeth's age as 22 and her place of birth. She is married to William Osborne and their marriage registrations gives her maiden name as Floyd.

  • It is obvious from the name (Ellen) and age (20) of William's wife given in the 1861 Census that his first wife Elizabeth had died and William had remarried. A search of FreeBMD for Elizabeth's death between the time of the 1851 Census and 1860 produced one death in the second quarter of 1857 and two deaths in the last quarter of 1867 registered in the St Columb area. However, the 1861 Census also shows that William had a son John age 3 whose birth was registered in the first quarter of 1858. A search for William's second marriage produced a registration in the second quarter of 1860. Thus it is assumed one of the later registrations is for Elizabeth's death and that she probably died in childbirth in December 1857 but that the birth registration for her son John was delayed until January 1858.

    Thomas was William's brother. The relationship of James Carne to the couple is unknown. The wedding was probably attended by the couple's parents but who else is not known.

    It is known from the 1851 Census that John married someone called Elizabeth. A search of the marriage registration index for the marriage of William Osborne gave a registration in the second quarter of 1848 in the St Columb district. Only one Elizabeth - Elizabeth Floyd - was recorded on the register page. Thus it is evident that John married Elizabeth Floyd.
