Parents of John Luscombe (58)

At one time it was thought that John Luscombe (114), who was initially found in the 1851 Census, was John Luscombe (58)'s father. This was based on the fact that John (58)'s Marriage Certificate records his father as John Luscombe, Publican. However, in the 1851 Census John (114)'s wife Elizabeth (200) was too young to have been John (58)'s father so a previous marriage was postulated.

Subsequently, evidence has been found in Pigot's Directories for 1822-3 and 1830 that John (58)'s father was a publican in Totnes and not in Ashburton. This is more likely as John (58) came from Totnes and there is no link to Ashburton.

Research was stopped when it was realised that John Luscombe (114) was not the father of John Luscombe (58).
