Birth:
18 Apr 1912
Beckenham, Bromley, Kent1

frm 1930 to 1972 (age 17-60)
his marriage certificates to both Olive Faux and Winifred Appleton give his occupation as a bank clerk. It is assumed that he started work at 18 and retired at 60. Whether he worked for the same bank all his life is not known but Pat Boyle (wife of Winifred's nephew) remembers that during the time she knew him from 1960 or thereabouts it was for an American bank in the city (London). He used to say they were very demanding.
Death:
4 Dec 1976 (age 64)
Cause: a disease of the nervous system
Address: Chelwood Gate
The date comes from a note on the envelope containing the Birth and Marriage Certificates for his wife Win and her sister Eddie. Ed and Win had moved to the small village of Chelwood Gate near Haywards Heath in East Sussex in April 1976 and it was there that Ed suddenly developed a disease of the nervous system which initally affected his walking and then confined him to a wheelchair (motor neurone disease?). The progression of the disease was very swift and Pat remembers visiting him in Roehampton Hospital with Win. However, because his death was registered in the district of Cuckfield he almost certainly died at home.
Spouse:
Marriage:
22 Nov 1947 (age 35)
the Parish Church of St John the Evangelist2

The two witnesses were F. H. Cardinal who was probably a friend or colleague of the groom and F. E. Faux who was almost certainly related to the bride.
Spouse:
Marriage:
16 Sep 1967 (age 55)
the Register Office3
Address: Croydon, Surrey
Don Boyle was the bride's nephew and Pat was his wife. The reception was held at 10 Grove Road, Thornton Heath, which was owned by the bride's sister Doris Rosam. The reception was attended by Win's sisters Dorie, Edie and Ella, Ella's husband Oswald (Charles) Ensom and their son Martin, Tony Ensom and his wife Jill , Barbara Goodman who was a great friend of Win, Eva Bishop who was a great friend of Dorie, Don and Pat Boyle and their children Andrew and Neil and several of Ed's friends.
Although the marriage certificate gives Win's address as 10, Grove Road, Thornton Heath which was her sister Dorie's house she had actually lived around the corner from Ed who was living at 71 The Glade, Shirley in 1967, but may have sold her house in anticipation of her forthcoming marriage. The fact that they had lived near each other accounts for the fact that they met on the train to London where they both worked in the city. After they married they lived at 71 The Glade until they moved to Whyteleafe in March 1968 when they sold the house to Pat & Don.
