Beryl had a nursing home at Mannamead near Emanuel Church. Tragically, she ran across the main road there into the path of an elderly driver and was knocked down, She suffered extensive injuries and was paralysed, She was a patient at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Her husband Peter visited her at the weekend sleeping in his van. She returned to Plymouth but Harry Luscombe who was the source of this information did not say how long she was at Stoke Manderville or whether she recovered from her injuries. Given her death at the comparatively early age of 42 she probably did not.
