In the 1841 Census and in the register for the marriage of his daughter Ann to William Rosam he is described as a labourer. In the 1851 Census he is recorded as an agricultural labourer. He was probably a casual labourer picking up work wherever he could. He almost certainly started working when he was 12 or even younger and continued until the end of his life.

The witnesses were John Elvins and Elizabeth Falknor. The groom, bride and the two witnesses signed with their marks. Elizabeth was almost certainly related to the bride. Who else was present is not known.

Henry is apprenticed to a mason William is shown as being employed but the entry is not understood. The family have the house or cottage to themselves but the size is unknown.
