Mary stayed with him until sometime between the 1871 and 1881 censuses when she took a post as housekeeper for the Rev. Thomas Lotheby who was the Rector of Langford Budville. Sometime between 1881 and 1901 (Mary is not recorded in the 1891 census) she took a post as a housekeeper in Erith, Kent probably because the Rev. Thomas Lotheby had died or retired. Sometime between 1901 and 1911 she retired and went to live in Plymouth.
