Joseph could have been either the bride's father of brother - probably the latter. Alice was probably the bride's sister. Why there were no witnesses associated with the groom is not known but as he was born in Hertingfordbury in Hertfordshire it is unlikely that members of his family would have travelled to London for the wedding.

The household consisted of Charles, his wife Emily, their children Dennis (age 13), Maud (age 11) and Doris (age 1), and Charles' brother-in-law Authur Johnson. As Arthur is recorded as being single it is assumed that he was Emily's brother. The household had 4 rooms but how they were used id not known. Presumably one was used a livinging room, another as the parents' and baby's bedroom, another as Arthur's bedroom, leaving the remining room for the other two children. The census records that Charles and Emily had had 6 chilren of whom 2 had died. When and at what age is not known. Their eldest son Albert who was 20 at the time was in the Army.
