On 26 August his daughter Rebecca e-mailed Jack Ward to say the appointment with the Oncologist confirmed what we had thought. It's confirmed as smoking related and no treatment will be beneficial. Palliative radiotherapy will possibly be used later if Dad's suffering with a lot of chest pain or coughing blood but the side effects outweigh the benefits at the moment. For the time being his weak heart is of more concern but the cancer will become more of an issue in time. The symptoms of both these and the COPD and fast/irregular heart are all very similar - breathlessness/confusion. Although he's a bit frail he's managing to walk around at the moment. They've put us in touch with the local palliative team (Sue Ryder) so that help can be set up if/when needed. It's the same people that looked after Mum which all feels a bit weird.
