St Martin's Church, Lincoln
The church stood at the top of Lincoln High Street in the downhill area of Lincoln, before the land rises steeply to 'uphill' Lincoln, which is dominated by Lincoln Cathedral . In the Medieval period the area around St Martin's church was the commercial centre of Lincoln and it stood very close to the Norman Jew's House and Jews Court . The church was largely destroyed in the English Civil War in 1643 and left as a ruin until 1739-40 when it was rebuilt in a Georgian style . This is the church that was recorded by the artist Samuel Hieronymus Grimm around 1784. About 1812 a new aisle was added to the church by the Lincoln architect William Hayward. Then in 1873, it was suggested that the whole of the church should be demolished to make way for a larger church. Due to the intervention of the Mayor of Lincoln, the tower, which was a prominent landmark on the Lincoln skyline was saved until it was demolished in about 1930. Much of the decorative stonework from the demolished church was used in the new church of St Andrew in Canwick road which was built in 1876–7, [1] but this church was demolished in 1970. [2]
St Martin's Church was rebuilt in 1873 in West Parade at the corner with Orchard Street by the architect A S Beckett. [3] An application was made to demolish the replacement church in 1966 and after a legal hearing the building was demolished in 1970.
Today, only the graveyard, which lies between St Martin's Lane and Garmston Street remains. The graveyard has been paved with some of the grave-slabs from the old church.

Harmston Hall Hospital
The Harmston Hall estate was purchased in 1932 by the Lincolnshire Joint Board for the Mentally Defective. Conversion work was carried out and the premises opened as the Harmston Hall Colony on 18 March 1935. The Colony passed to the National Health Service in 1948 and became the Harmston Hall Hospital at the end of 1951. The hospital was administered by the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board Lincoln No. 3 Hospital Management Committee, 1948-c1968, the Lincoln Heath Hospital Management Committee (still part of the Sheffield Regional Hospital Boad), c1969-1974, and then by Lincolnshire Area Health Authority and its successors. There were subsidiary branches at Caistor, Bourne and Holbeach, and hostels at Cross o'Cliff Court (from February 1939) and Tuxford, Nottinghamshire (from 1 April 1951). Hostels were opened at Shannon Avenue in Lincoln (1970), Redwood Drive, Lincoln (April 1986), and Stewton Lane, Louth (September 1986). An on-site school was transferred to the administration of Kesteven County Council in 1971, re-built in 1972, and closed in September 1987. Harmston Hall Hospital was closed on 16 January 1990, with the remaining patients transferred to Long Leys Court at St George's Hospital, Lincoln.

The size of the house is unknown but it must have been large and in a fairly affluent area as all the households along the street had at least one servant.

Baptism of Maggie, Edward and Alice Lauderdale into the Church of England
Maggie, Edward and Alice Lauderdale were all baptised on the same occasion (29 Jul 1894) by Edward, Bishop of Lincoln. Their father Edward Lauderdale had converted from being a Baptist to the Church of England in late 1893 and been ordained. It was therefore appropriate that his children should be baptised into the Church of England. As the baptism was carried out by the Bishop of Lincoln it may have been a prelude to a Confirmation Service. Interestingly Edward's wife Mary Jane who was Baptist doe not appear to have converted to the Church of England.
