Name:
Henry Quince
Sex:
Male
Father:
Mother:
Birth:
Jan 1844
Three out of the six censuses in which he was recorded gave a calculated year of birth of 1844 and the same number gave his birthplace as Southwark. The 1921 Census which gives ages in years and months gives his birth month which is confirmed as reasonable by his birth registration A search of the IGI and FreeReg failed to produce a baptismal record so a more acuate date of and place of birth cannot be obtained.
Occupation:
frm 1857 to 1862 (age 12-18)
labourer; Whitechapel, Middlesex9
Occupation:
frm 1862 to 1915 (age 17-71)
glass blower and glass bottle maker; Bermonsey and East Ham10 11 12 13 7 14
The 1871 an 1881 Censuses show that he is employed as a glass blower first in Bermonsey and then in East Ham. The Censuses from 1891 to 1921 give his occupation as a glass bottle maker although he is shown as retired in the 1921 Census which was taken when he was 77. It is possible that between 1881 and 1891 the manufacture of bottles became mechanised. He may have worked at Moore, Nettlefold & Co who were glass bottle manufacturers in East Ham.

||Although his death was registerd in West Ham he had lived in East Ham since the 1881 Census and was probably living there at the time of his death.

The relationship of the other witness John Wise to the couple is not known. The wedding was almost certainly attended by the groom's father but his mother was dead having died in 1864.
