Alice's great niece, Madeline (Wallace) was certain that Alice was born before her grandmother Rose Laura Griffiths. As Rose was born in 1880 a nominal date of 1878 has been given to Alice's birth. Where she was born is not known as it has not been possible to find her birth registration in either England or Ireland largely due to the fact that Griffiths is a common surname.
Madeline Blackman recorded by Jack Ward, Reminiscences of Madeline Blackman (née Wallace), (20 Feb 2005). Charles Avery Griffiths and Caroline Julia Schweitzer had 8 children, 4 of whom survived. The surviving children in birth order were: Caroline, Alice Maud, Rose Laura and Elizabeth.
