1970, Probate for Rose Laura Bone

  • Birth:

  • 6 Feb 1880

  • Belliskey Townland, Layd Parish, County Antrim2 3 4 5

  •

  • Address: Coast Guard Station

In the 1911 Census Rose gives her place and date of birth as the parish of Layd in Antrim in 1880. A search of Civil Registrations gives an exact date and the place of birth as Belliskey Townland. (The current name is Bellisk Townland.) Belliskey is a Townland of 25 acres on the east coat of Antrim in the town of Cushendall. Her birth registration gives her parents' names as Charles Avery Griffiths and Caroline Julia Miller and not Caroline Julia Schweitzer as stated by Madeline Blackham granddaughter of Charles Avery Griffiths. The register entry for her birth shows that her father (Charles Griffiths) was coast guard at the Chushendall Coast Guard Station so it is assumed that she was born there.

  • Census:

  • 31 Mar 1901 (age 21)

  • Mylor, Falmouth, Cornwall6

  •

  • Address: Trevissome House

where she was working as a servant to the Page household which consisted of Thomas Page, a retired merchant, and his 4 children. His wife was away on the night of the census but there was a visitor and a governess. The one other living in servant was the cook.

  • Guest at marriage of Roy Albert Wallace and Rose Laura Bone

  • Death:

  • 21 Apr 1970 (age 90)

  • Newton Abbot area of Devon8 9

  •

  • The area in which she died was something of a surprise as hard evidence indicates that she lived most of her life in the Plymouth area and the Grant of Probate on her estate says that her normal address was 50 Chestnut Road, Peverell, Plymouth so it can only be assumed that she was either on holiday or visiting friends when she died.

  • Probate:

  • 18 Jun 1970

  • London10

  •

  • Her estate was worth £2,364. The beneficiaries are unknown but were probably her children Rose and George.
