    The details of her primary and secondary education are not known. However, to obtain a place in a teacher training college in the early 1960s she would have need a minimum of 5 O levels or equivalent. It was a three year course. Part of her teacher training was in Birmingham which she disliked. After qualifying she obtained a post at East Quay Primary School in Barnstable.

    Teacher training colleges no longer exist. After the Robbins Committee Report on higher education they became Colleges of Education which have now been absorbed into universities.

    She secured the post on completion of her teacher training. She loved it and continued to teach the Reception Class until the end of her working life.

    East Quay primary School no longer exists at least not under that name. It is now thought to have been be called East-the-Water Primary School.

    In 1985(?) Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer and was treated at Exeter Hospital. Her father paid for her and her cousin Pat to stay at the Bristol Cancer Centre which provided complimentary therapy for a week. Pat got the impression that her husband George was in denial over her illness and almost up to the last moment expected her to recover. Pat nursed Susan for the last 6 week of her life and although her Death Certificate says that her husband George was with her when she died it was actually Pat.

    The church was packed because as the reception class teacher at the local primary school she was well known and respected by the local community. Those attending the service included her husband George, her father-in-law George Isaac, her cousin Pat Carpenter who had nursed her through the final stages of her illness, and her children Ian and Bobby although they were not present at the iinterrment which took place immediately after the service in the churchyard.

    The newspaper notice of the funeral requested only family flowers but donations if desired to Cancer Research c/o National Westminster Bank, Northam.

    The service was taken by the Vicar and the witnesses were the bride's parents George and Gladys Isaac, Leonard Field who was the groom's half sister's husband and M.E. Rickard. The relationship of the last witness to the couple is not known. Kevin the groom's nephew was his best man. Alan Tricker was Groomsman. Lyn and Susan Hodge were bridesmaids. Pat (wife of Leonard Field), Kevin and Carol Field (the groom's half-sister and brother-in-law), Trevor and Jan Field (Trevor was also the groom's nephew), Penny Andrews, John (Laird?), Joan and Frank Squires, Patsy (the bride's cousin and her husband Don, Dorrie and Harry Andrews, Rita and Frank Hodge, Marjorie and Len Rickard, Jean Tricker (wife of the Groomsman), Lucy and Ron Crisp, Jeannetta and Bill M’Kintosh were also guests.

    It is not known where the reception was held or where the couple honeymooned. Susan and George met through an introduction agency and as far as is known they had a happy marriage.
