The parish register entry for his baptism gives his date of birth as the 4 March 1871. However, the 1939 register gives the date as 6 March. It is known from the 1901 Census and his military record that Herbert Snowdeen married a Lucy. A search of Free BMD only produced one credible fit - that of a Herbert Peter Snowden marrying a Lucy Mary A Smith in 1896. However, the registration district of St George Hanover Square was a surprise as it is largely within the City of Westminster and is mainly composed of 'up market' areas.
