    How he was recruited to move from Tottenham in Middlesex to Leyton in Essex and the exact date of his move is not known. It is known from the 1861 Census that he was working as a groom and almost certainly graduated to coach driving in Tottenham before he moved to Leyton.

  • What prompted him to give up his job as coachman in Leyton and return to Tottenham to set up as dairyman is not known. (In the grant of administration he is shown as a retired dairyman.)
